The Best Wedding Venues in Somerset for Natural Photography

There are so many beautiful wedding venues across Somerset, and every one has something different to offer. As a wedding photographer, I tend to notice things a little differently though. While couples are often looking at the décor or guest capacity, I'm always looking for the light, the surroundings and the little spots that will make your photographs feel natural.

One venue that always stands out to me is Coombe Lodge. It's a stunning stately home with so much character, both inside and out. Every room feels different, which means your gallery has loads of variety without ever needing to leave the venue.

One of my favourite things about Coombe Lodge is the natural light. The large windows let so much daylight in, making the ceremony and getting ready photographs feel soft and timeless. Natural light suits my documentary style perfectly because it allows moments to happen without needing to interrupt them with lots of lighting.

Outside, the grounds are just as beautiful. I especially love photographing in the woodland and around the rose garden and greenhouse. They all offer something completely different and make such beautiful backdrops for relaxed couple portraits. These quieter areas also give couples five minutes together while I capture those candid moments without taking them away from their guests for too long.

Another Somerset venue I always enjoy photographing is Aldwick Estate. If you're looking for something a little different, it's such a lovely family-run venue with its own winery at the heart of it. You can even have your ceremony overlooking the vines, which makes for such a beautiful setting.

The winery itself also creates a stunning backdrop for photographs, giving your gallery something a little unique. When you're choosing a wedding venue, I'd always recommend looking beyond how it looks in photos online. Think about whether it offers both indoor and outdoor ceremony options, especially with British weather being so unpredictable. Having both means your day can flow beautifully whatever happens.

I'd also pay attention to the light. Bright spaces with large windows will always create a softer, more natural feel in your photographs, and having gardens or interesting outdoor spaces gives us plenty of options without spending ages wandering around.

At the end of the day, the venue is just the backdrop. The best photographs come from genuine moments with the people you love. Choosing somewhere that feels relaxed and lets you enjoy your day is far more important than finding the most extravagant venue.
